When should you leave your relationship?

How many chances do you give someone before you tell them that it isn’t working?

There's no right or wrong answer to this difficult question so how do you make the decision? Are there any signs which can help you decide whether to stay and try harder or to leave a relationship? Leading personal coach, Brendon Burchard, says Yes!

Property or divorce first

Here are five indicators that reveal it's highly likely time to move on:

  1. When there’s abuse.

You owe no loyalty to abusive people! If you are being abused physically, you need to exit. Plan it, do it and sooner rather than later. If someone is consistently verbally or psychologically abusing you, then you need to leave them. Find a place of support and then go. Look for a support centre to help you. Seek help from family and friends. Call on the police for support if necessary. Click HERE for a list of resources to help you escape an abusive relationship.

  1. Repeated failed discussions to try to fix your relationship

Have you shared your feelings with your partner and communicated your needs and desires? If you have and you've had repeated ‘discussions’ where you have each tried to listen and communicate with each other about what you would like to happen to improve your relationship yet nothing has changed, it may be time to get outside help. If getting help doesn’t happen, or it doesn’t improve your situation, it may be time to leave the relationship.

  1. Repeated Neglect

If your partner just never takes care of you that’s not a relationship or even a friendship. If someone at work neglects to do the job they have been given, then they lose that job. So, if you have given your partner feedback and they continue to neglect you, it may be time to fire them.

  1. Repeated Lies

You will not shift people who continually lie to you by the sheer hope that they will stop lying. You deserve the truth. Cut them loose!

  1. No appreciation

If you are in a relationship where you are not appreciated, yet you are serving your partner by doing the things they have asked of you, it may be time to move on. If you have given your partner feedback that you feel unappreciated and those discussions repeatedly fail, your partner continues to lie to you or neglect your feelings, then say goodbye.

Ending a relationship is daunting but can you really justify wasting any more of your life with someone who does not respect, cherish and value you?
